Army’s Hill (’10) killed in car accident

Terrible news today for the Army football family, former Army corner back Mario Hill, a 2010 West Point graduate, was killed in a car accident early Saturday morning in Lexington, Ky. He was 25.
BJ Daniels photo on ESPN.com

ESPN.com’s Big East blog went with one of my photos of South Florida quarterback B.J. Daniels today:
What Tebow means for Sanchez

I’m not breaking any news here saying that Tim Tebow is joining the New York Jets, but amidst the drama of that deal is the reality that the Jets’ current starting QB, Mark Sanchez, is under increased pressure to perform. And typically when Sanchez comes under pressure, criticism or otherwise has reason to be worried, [...]
Rodriguez named nation’s best

Army’s Andrew Rodriguez joined elite company on Tuesday when he was named the winner of the Sullivan Award as the nation’s most outstanding amateur athlete. The honor has been presented annually since 1930, and is based on character, leadership and sportsmanship.
Temple’s Coyer in ESPN, CBS

My photo of Temple Owls quarterback Chris Coyer was featured on ESPN.com Tuesday in a Q&A with the team’s new starting QB. Coyer, who played parts of Temple’s game against Army last November at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, spoke about playing under a new offensive system and the Owls’ bowl win over Wyoming last year. [...]
Back to work: a morning at Army football camp

College football in February? Yes. Sort of. Army has begun its annual spring football camp with a few workouts and scrimmages each week through the end of March. It’s an opportunity for head coach Rich Ellerson and his staff to gauge the talent and possibilities coming up for the 2012 season, and an opportunity for [...]
SI, ESPN, Yahoo and more

Just posting some recent photos I’ve had published this week around the web. Jan. 24 was a busy day as I had images in Sports Illustrated, ESPN, USA Today and Yahoo! Sports. The screenshot above led the front page of SportsIllustrated.com for SI’s story about former Don Bosco DB Yuri Wright, who was kicked out [...]
More in SI.com, USA Today

Last month a I had a pair of photos in the Dec. 20 edition of USA Today, both from the Don Bosco High School football game I shot earlier last year at Fordham. I had a smaller shot in USA Today after the game, but once the season ended with Bosco ranked No. 1, the [...]
Erzinger’s final game

Army captain Steve Erzinger will get one more day in the sun (or technically, under the lights) when he plays in Saturday’s East-West Shrine Game in Florida. The game, played at Tropicana Field (home of Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays) features senior college football All-Stars from around the county, many of whom go one to the NFL.
Temple shot on SI.com

Sports Illustrated rolled out a story about upcoming college football bowl games tonight and featured my photo of Temple running back Bernard Pierce on the front of SI.com (above). I took the photo last month during Army’s game against Temple at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa. I got a lot of nice images of [...]
Navy makes it 10 straight

It was another rough December Saturday for Army as Navy hit a pair of late field goals and hung on in the final minute for a 27-21 win at FedEx Field on Dec. 10. Navy has now won 10 straight meetings with West Point, unfathomable for Army fans and a continued dream for the Midshipmen.
Temple routs Army in Philly

Army fell to 3-8 on Saturday after a disappointing 42-14 loss to Temple at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa. Army remains winless now on the road this season and has one game left, a date with Navy in Washington, D.C. about a month from now.
Rutgers trips up Army in Bronx

Army let another game slip away in the second half on Saturday, dropping its second straight contest, 27-12, to Rutgers at Yankee Stadium. A 6-6 tie at halftime turned a mess in the fourth quarter thanks to a penalty that pulled back a touchdown and a blocked punt that led to seven more points.
Blizzard winners: Army routs Fordham

Saturday’s Army-Fordham game was probably the most challenging shoot I’ve had. Army won 55-0 and — although I was thrilled we won — it still was incredibly frustrating. The snow — heavy, big, wet flakes — made it impossible to focus on anything with my camera. Any frame I got in-focus was luck. With about [...]
Sanchez, Plax lead Jets

About three months ago, I surprised my dad with tickets for a Giants-Jets exhibition game at the new Meadowlands Stadium. He blew me off, and we never went. I hadn’t been to an NFL game since 2002. On Sunday, I finally found myself on the sidelines awaiting kickoff, surrounded by 79,088 green fans. And I [...]
UConn upsets USF in Hartford

In my first non-Army college football experience, I got to see UConn hold on for a 16-10 win over South Florida on Saturday in East Hartford, Conn. US Presswire asked me to fill in for the regular UConn shooter, so I made my way out to Rentschler Field (the last and first time I’d been [...]
Reaching USA Today

It may have been a small black and white photo on page 11B, but hey, still counts! After joining US Presswire a few weeks ago, I got my first photo published in a major newspaper on Monday when USA Today ran a picture of Don Bosco Prep’s Jabrill Peppers in the back of the sports section as part of a weekend recap.
ESPN Photo of the Week

My aforementioned stupidity (or bravery) in crawling out of bed after throwing up to shoot Army’s blowout rout of Tulane on Saturday was rewarded on Monday when ESPN.com selected my image of the Black Knights’ alma mater celebration for its “Best of Week 5″ Photos of the Week gallery.
Army dominates Tulane behind Maples, Steelman

Raymond Maples rushed for a career-best 141 yards and a touchdown and junior QB Trent Steelman accounted for three scores as Army rolled to a 45-6 victory over Tulane for its second win of the 2011 season at Michie Stadium in West Point.
Steelman, cadets stun Northwestern

“We have a chance now,” Army head coach Rich Ellerson said after Saturday’s dramatic win. “We needed one of these three. We’ve grown each week, and they’ve been able to stay together. We got our nose bloodied a couple times, and we struggled doing some things, but we stayed together and we believed in ourselves. [...]
A return to West Point

Army’s Jon Crucitti carries an American flag flown on Sept. 12, 2001 at the World Trade Center out into Michie Stadium before Army’s game against San Diego State on Sept. 10, 2011 in West Point, N.Y. The Black Knights fell just short in their final drive, losing 23-20 in their home opener. (Danny Wild/USMA)
Captains named on Media Day

Army officially kicked off the 2011 season on Monday morning with its annual media day event at West Point, which was a good excuse for me to get back up to the Academy and see some of the boys. The event itself isn’t especially exciting, but you can tell, the pride and anticipation and excitement [...]
King’s football career appears to be over

Army senior Richard King is headed for active duty. (Danny Wild/USMA) The bizarre news of Richard King’s run-in with a few thugs and Houston police has spread quickly in the last couple days. King, a senior at West Point entering his fifth year, was reportedly assaulted by several of Patti LaBelle’s “bodyguards” at a Texas [...]
Army’s Ellerson: ‘Lots of work to do’

Army is only a handful of years removed from their forgettable losing campaigns — they went 3-9 three straight years from 2006-08 — but heading into the fall, third-year head coach Rich Ellerson has reason to smile.
“The good news, is people aren’t as excited about playing us as they used to be,” Ellerson told ESPN.com earlier this month. “We’re one of those programs now.”
