Sanchez, Plax lead Jets

About three months ago, I surprised my dad with tickets for a Giants-Jets exhibition game at the new Meadowlands Stadium. He blew me off, and we never went. I hadn’t been to an NFL game since 2002. On Sunday, I finally found myself on the sidelines awaiting kickoff, surrounded by 79,088 green fans. And I [...]
UConn upsets USF in Hartford

In my first non-Army college football experience, I got to see UConn hold on for a 16-10 win over South Florida on Saturday in East Hartford, Conn. US Presswire asked me to fill in for the regular UConn shooter, so I made my way out to Rentschler Field (the last and first time I’d been [...]
Reaching USA Today

It may have been a small black and white photo on page 11B, but hey, still counts! After joining US Presswire a few weeks ago, I got my first photo published in a major newspaper on Monday when USA Today ran a picture of Don Bosco Prep’s Jabrill Peppers in the back of the sports section as part of a weekend recap.
ESPN Photo of the Week

My aforementioned stupidity (or bravery) in crawling out of bed after throwing up to shoot Army’s blowout rout of Tulane on Saturday was rewarded on Monday when ESPN.com selected my image of the Black Knights’ alma mater celebration for its “Best of Week 5″ Photos of the Week gallery.
Army dominates Tulane behind Maples, Steelman

Raymond Maples rushed for a career-best 141 yards and a touchdown and junior QB Trent Steelman accounted for three scores as Army rolled to a 45-6 victory over Tulane for its second win of the 2011 season at Michie Stadium in West Point.
Halladay, Phillies slow down Mets

It was quite a matchup at Citi Field on Sunday when the Phillies, riding an eight-game losing streak, took on a depleted Mets lineup that more resembled Triple-A Buffalo than any Major League team. The Mets, winners of three straight, gave David Wright the day after a doubleheader, leaving Jose Reyes and various backups with [...]
Steelman, cadets stun Northwestern

“We have a chance now,” Army head coach Rich Ellerson said after Saturday’s dramatic win. “We needed one of these three. We’ve grown each week, and they’ve been able to stay together. We got our nose bloodied a couple times, and we struggled doing some things, but we stayed together and we believed in ourselves. [...]
A return to West Point

Army’s Jon Crucitti carries an American flag flown on Sept. 12, 2001 at the World Trade Center out into Michie Stadium before Army’s game against San Diego State on Sept. 10, 2011 in West Point, N.Y. The Black Knights fell just short in their final drive, losing 23-20 in their home opener. (Danny Wild/USMA)
A-Rod’s Triple-A rehab

Driving home last night at 1 a.m. in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania, I sort of realized how therapeutic getting out to the ballpark that day had been. This has been an incredibly stressful last few weeks for me, so when I saw Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez was slated to play in a few [...]
Pence’s Phillies debut a happy one

Funny how things work out some times, especially in sports. I had already put in a request to shoot the Phillies and Pirates a few weeks before Hunter Pence (a stud outfielder on my last-place fantasy team) was traded to Philly from the Astros. He debuted on Saturday in Philadelphia, and I rolled into town [...]
Rugby photos featured in West Point Magazine

The latest edition of the quarterly West Point Magazine is out this month featuring a story about the Army men’s rugby team by Lieutenant Colonel Jim Johnston, who graduated from the Academy in ’73 and now writers for the alumni magazine.
Captains named on Media Day

Army officially kicked off the 2011 season on Monday morning with its annual media day event at West Point, which was a good excuse for me to get back up to the Academy and see some of the boys. The event itself isn’t especially exciting, but you can tell, the pride and anticipation and excitement [...]
Yankees host Brewers

The Yankees hosted Milwaukee for an interleague game at the end of May at Yankee Stadium — CC Sabathia out-pitched Randy Wolf and Mark Teixeira slugged his 300th career home run in the Yanks’ win. Here’s a look at some of my photos from the day.
Jeter ‘nervous’ for rehab start

When Derek Jeter walked through the dark, stuffy underbelly of Mercer County Waterfront Park around 6:43 p.m. on Saturday night, he was a little scared. About 9,000 fans, 20 photographers, a couple mascots and two golden retrievers were anxiously waiting to see him pop out of the dugout. “There was some nerves, I didn’t sleep [...]
Army’s Moore, McKague selected in MLB Draft

Army shortstop Clint Moore was drafted on Wednesday by the San Diego Padres at No. 953 overall.
Moore, a 5-foot-11 infielder who graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant last month, entered the season ranked among the top seniors in the nation by Baseball America after getting invited to the Cape Cod League last summer.
King’s football career appears to be over

Army senior Richard King is headed for active duty. (Danny Wild/USMA) The bizarre news of Richard King’s run-in with a few thugs and Houston police has spread quickly in the last couple days. King, a senior at West Point entering his fifth year, was reportedly assaulted by several of Patti LaBelle’s “bodyguards” at a Texas [...]
In focus: Bryce Harper

Bryce Harper.
Know the name? He’s the most hated, most adored and certainly the most well-known Minor Leaguer taking the field every night this spring.
The 18-year-old Las Vegas, Nev., native was the No. 1 pick in the 2010 Major League Draft, going to the Washington Nationals on a record $9.9 million contract thanks to Scott Boras. A converted outfielder with power and speed, Harper is riding the bus in Class A Hagerstown these days, about two months after declaring his intentions to make the Nats’ Opening Day roster.
Army’s Ellerson: ‘Lots of work to do’

Army is only a handful of years removed from their forgettable losing campaigns — they went 3-9 three straight years from 2006-08 — but heading into the fall, third-year head coach Rich Ellerson has reason to smile.
“The good news, is people aren’t as excited about playing us as they used to be,” Ellerson told ESPN.com earlier this month. “We’re one of those programs now.”
Army hockey photos in West Point Magazine

I recently worked with West Point Magazine, the new official publication of the West Point Association of Graduates, on two sports stories. One, which followed the Army hockey team for a weekend in February, was published in the April/Spring edition of the magazine, which is sent to over 50,000 West Point alums.
Army LAX ends season

Army’s lacrosse team, ranked No. 19 in the nation following their loss in the Patriot League playoffs, will host Johns Hopkins (No. 3/4) at Michie Stadium on Friday. The game will be televised live by CBS Sports Network. Click here to see more Army lacrosse photos from 2011

Spring Training 2011
Spring Training, and this trip/week, is one of my favorite times of the year. The weather in Florida is incredible in March (80* and sunny every day this week) and the atmosphere at the ballparks is always very relaxed and laid back.
